About Us 

Bernard T. Smith

Bernie is a consultant in the areas of forecasting, purchasing and inventory management for companies throughout the world. He’s given seminars on inventory management for APICS, the Council of Logistics Management, the National Purchasing Management Association, the National Wholesale Hardware Association, the Toy Manufacturers of America, the Airline Transportation Association, NASA Aerospace, and hundreds of individual seminars in France, England and Australia. He has worked as a consultant with hundreds of companies.

Bernie is a world renowned consultant in the profitable use of computers, systems, and programming in business. The concepts in his books have been used by hundreds of business and government groups to improve customer service, improve return on assets, reduce cost of goods sold and to reduce operating costs. Bernie received his BA and MBA degrees from the University of Bridgeport in Connecticut. He taught in the graduate studies program—managerial accounting, long range planning, and information systems. In his career Bernie managed a data processing, systems, programming staff and two IBM mainframe computers for Warnaco--the people who made and sold Hathaway Shirts, White Stag Ski Wear, Puritan Sportswear, and other apparel. His job objective was to ensure that the information resources of the company were focused on profitable projects and to screen and select outside software products.

Later Bernie became Vice President Inventory Control and Long Range Planning for Servistar Corporation--a billion dollar distributor in the Do-It-Yourself home center market. In inventory control his responsibilities included fill rate, turnover, maintenance of gross profit, and reduction of freight and operating costs. In long range planning he set up the processes for identifying company strengths and weaknesses. He also handled acquisitions and spin-offs as well as disaster response.

He created the Focus Forecasting^® concept in 1972. In 1986 he formed B. T. Smith and Associates specializing in inventory management solutions including inventory management software, consulting, education, contract programming, and service bureau processing for supply chain management.

In 2006, Bernie created the latest versions of Focus Forecasting^® and Resource Planning to make the best use of the MyGate technology.
